Empowering community leaders
Fellowships start: Nov. 3, 2025
At Barrio Alegria, we have an employment model known as a "fellowship." It is a year-long commitment between Barrio and its employees, new and returning.
A Barrio Fellowship is a professional development and leadership training program designed to empower local leaders from our community.
Fellows, often drawn from the same communities Barrio Alegria serves, receive support and guidance to overcome barriers like imposter syndrome, allowing them to actively participate in and lead community engagement and development initiatives. The program is structured to integrate creative placekeeping, community development, and leadership development efforts, with Fellows playing a crucial role in advancing these goals.

Barrio Alegria's growth presents new opportunities and challenges. But with the help of community leaders who share our DNA, we are up to the test. As we participate in larger initiatives, we have been lucky to fund amazing individuals—many from the same communities we serve—who are used to overcoming barriers.
The Barrio Fellowship offers professional development and leadership training, empowering local leaders to actively engage in citywide efforts.
