OJOS 2017

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

2017's Ojos Photography Workshop part of the program program took place on August 19, 2017 from 11a.m. to 1:30p.m.  On this day, the 3 students mentioned below received a DSLR camera that they used to capture the beauty that they see in the South of Penn. Barrio hopes that this program will change the way we view our city specially our youth, since surveys have shown that a majority of our youth have resolved to move out of Reading once they have finished their education.

We want our youth and the community to know that there is a future for the city of Reading and in order for it to grow, we all need to change the way we view it. At Barrio, we believe that behind the lens of a camera our youth can find a way to communicate the beauty they perceive.

Workshop Day:

These 3 students were excited to have the opportunity to use the cameras! They looked forward to the experience of learning to capture the beauty that they have in mind and making it become a reality through their camera lens.  The students had the cameras for a week.  After the week was over, they returned the cameras to give 2 other students the same opportunity.

The day of the photography workshop led by a local photographer, we treated our guests and participants to some pizza, donuts, and refreshments. Everyone had a wonderful time and we had great conversation as well! It's beautiful when everyone can come together with a common interest and enjoy each other's company!

Gallery Show:

The gallery show took place on October 20 at 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army in Reading. It was open to the public and the participants were able to talk to the visitors about their photographs. The public present took pictures with their favorite photographs.
